        |Try this:
        |
        |public class foo {
        | public static void main(String args[]) {
        | String lang = System.getProperty("user.language");
        | String region = System.getProperty("user.region");
        | if ( lang!=null )
        | System.out.println("user.language = " + lang);
        | if ( region!=null )
        | System.out.println("user.region = " + region);
        | }
        |}
        |
        |(put it in a file called foo.java), then compile and run it, e.g.
        |
        | javac foo.java
        | java foo
        |
        |And let me know what it says...

      On Solaris, it says:
      user.language = ja
      (no user.region line printed)

      On Windows NT & 95, it says:
      user.language =ja
      user.region = JP
