multiple stack overflow causes HS crash

      Both latest J2SDK 1.3-b27 (sparc) and JDK 1.4-b29 (both sparc & win32)
      crash under the folowing test:

      On win32, java.exe crashes with exit code=128.

      On SPARC, java dumps core, and diagnostics like following is displayed:
