FULL OPERATING SYSTEM VERSION :
Microsoft Windows 2000 [Version 5.00.2195]
Service pack 2
A DESCRIPTION OF THE PROBLEM :
The JRE does not include JavaHelp. Please add it in a
future release of the JRE.
Bearing in mind that the JRE includes SWING, including a
help engine would be really useful for swing apps!
STEPS TO FOLLOW TO REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM :
1.Write a java source file which uses or references JavaHelp
2. Run it on a machine with the standard JRE installed, and
no JavaHelp installed in the classpath.
EXPECTED VERSUS ACTUAL BEHAVIOR :
JavaHelp should be part of the standard JRE distribution.
This bug can be reproduced always.
CUSTOMER WORKAROUND :
1. Get users to download & install JavaHelp, not all users
are expert enough to know how to do this.
2. Ship javahelp with the product. This increases the
application's download size, and I am not sure this can
easily be done under Sun's current licensing terms.
3. Don't put help in SWING applications. The easiest, but
least satisfactory answer.
