Some RSA test cases FAIL on 1.3.1_05b1/b2

    • Subcomponent:
    • CPU:
    • OS:

      Adding more detail....

Plugin Test for RSA Signed Applet Support ::
      Self signed
      ( http://sqesvr.sfbay/deployment1/ws/tests/func/RSA/self/selfsigned.html ) and
      Double self signed testcases

Both QL testcases FAIL on Win NT and Win XP OS. Also tested on Sol Sparc.
Firstly, the user interaction dialogue appears allowing the user to grant the permissions, which is NOT expected.

(This is a similar exception to BugID #4693019 - this was integrated to 131_05b1.)

Investigated on Sol 2.9 so far, Windows 131_04b2 PASSES i.e. this exception (131_04) seems to be only seen on UNIX)

CLARIFICATION : >>>>> solaris throws exception in 1.3.1_04 , windows does not.
Pointing out also that this is the same exception as seen in bug #4693019, (now integrated in 131_05b1)
The pass and fail statements above relate to the RSA tests and not any tests involving 4693019.

      1.3.1_05b2 - FAIL

An accompanying note in the procedures explains that the test is infact a PASS in 1.4 if it prints a message FAIL in console... This property might have been inherited from 1.4??

Easily reproduced by installing the above jre and using IE5.x

      Just to clarify :
Full instructions for these test cases can be found at the following link.
      (test case 3 & test case 4)

      All platforms fail for 1.3.1_05b1/b2

In 1.3.1_04 only solaris shows the "java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: isRootVerifiedByIE" error.
Windows passes these tests when using 1.3.1_04b2
2.9 sparc was stated because this was the OS we chose as a test. Probably exists on other solaris platforms also.

The test cases state the following :
Note : If this test case is run in Java Plug-in 1.4,The test case should FAIL
as Java Plug-in version 1.4 recognises the self signed certificate where as the
earlier versions of Java Plug-in doesnot recognise the self signed certificates.
In Otherwords, The test is pass in 1.4 if it prints a message FAIL in console.
Is it possible that this feature (self signed cert recognition) has been backported to 1.3.1_05 ?
and so the test should fail ?

      ###@###.### 2002-09-05

We made changes in 1.3.1_05 to pop up a dialog to ask user for permission (grant or deny) when a root certificate can not be verified (including self signed certificate) instead of throwing a security exception. This behavior is the same as that in 1.4. So the tests should fail.
      ###@###.### 2002-09-05

The UnsatifiedLinkError is fixed in 1.3.1_05. Solaris now does the same as windows (pop up a dialog to ask for permission) when the root certificate can not be verified.
