Back port HKSCS-2001 support from Tiger to 1.4.2_05 in QuickSilver

    XMLWordPrintable

    Details

      Description

      Compared to HKSCS-1999, HKSCS-2001 has additional 116 characters, see attached 'hkscs-116.data', their code range is between 0x8c40 and 0x8cdc. Also many characters have been mapped from Unicode PUA (Private User Area) to Unicode Supplementary plane (Unicode Plane 2).

      HKSCS-2001 is already supported in QuickSilver and their characters can be handled well in Gnome application but java application such as jedit can't display the 116 characters due to that its converter only supports HKSCS-1999.

      To reproduce in build8 or 8b,

        * change the /etc/X11/gdm/locale.alias to uncomment the entry for zh_HK.big5hkscs.
        * install the attached freetype2 rpm pacakge
        * copy the attached BIG5HKSCS.so into /usr/lib/gconv
        * run 'fc-cache -f .' under /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/truetype
        * login out and login into the zh_HK locale
        * use jedit to open the attached file
