Java plugin for Mozilla on Solaris 10 doesn't honour AUDIODEV environment variable

    Details

    • Type: Bug
    • Status: Closed
    • Priority: P4
    • Resolution: Cannot Reproduce
    • Affects Version/s: 5.0u3

    • Component/s: client-libs

      Description

Using the inbuilt Mozilla with Solaris 10 (or build or Firefox 2) with the Java plugin audio generated by a Java program comes out of the servers speaker rather than the Sun Ray device.

This can be reproduced as follows:

Install Solaris 10 6/06 on Ultra 60 (or any workstation/server with speaker)
Patch using EIS DVD Sept 2006
Install SRSS 3.1 + 04 patch (or later)
      Install Firefox
      Symlink java plugins as follows:
          cd /opt/sfw/lib/firefox/plugins
          ln -s ../../../../../usr/java/jre/plugin/sparc/ns7/libjavaplugin_oji.so

Login as root (so you have permissions for /dev/audio during this test)

Start either Mozilla or Firefox and run Java with audio (e.g. goto www.popcap.com, start Java game rocket mania)

Audio will come out of the Ultra 60 speaker rather than the Sun Ray

The Java plugin should honour AUDIODEV environment variable as follows:

If AUDIODEV is set, use this for audio device, otherwise use /dev/audio

      This needs checking for:

      Solaris 10 x86 + SRSS + Mozilla/Firefox & Java Plugin
      Solaris 10 sparc + SRSS + Mozilla/Firefox & Java Plugin
      Linux + SRSS 3.1/3.1.1 + Mozilla/Firefox & Java Plugin
