Euro characters are not displayed properly on EuroTest applet in AWTtest

    XMLWordPrintable

    Details

    • Subcomponent:
    • CPU:
      x86
    • OS:
      linux_suse_sles_10

      Description

      jdk version: 1.4.2_15 b02
      os: SUSE 10
      locale: de_DE.UTF-8

      steps to reproduce:
      install java bundle
      untar awt.tar
      cd awt/applets
      run appletviewer euro/euro.html

question marks are displayed instead of euro symbols.
Tested also on Gentoo with the same behaviour.
Also the inputting the euro sign give a set of broken chars.
The SwingTest is passing this test so it is reproducible in awt only.
Tested on RHAS 4.0 and SUSE 10. Problem exists at least from 1.4.2_11 in every update release in UTF-8 locales.
The full extent of the problem can be seen on the attached screenshot. To reproduce it, run
java awttest -command "string with euro symbol"

The euro symbol is not displayed in several components: menu, menu item, button, checkbox, label.
Inputting euro symbol into components like TextArea or TextField works fine. It is also displayed properly in Titlebar, Canvas and Choice components.
