      Description

      FULL PRODUCT VERSION :
      java version "1.6.0_19"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_19-b04)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 16.2-b04, mixed mode, sharing)

      ADDITIONAL OS VERSION INFORMATION :
      Vista and Windows 7.

A DESCRIPTION OF THE PROBLEM :
      Hi!

Others and I cannot get the "do not check for updates" box in Windows' Java cpl (control panel) application to stick. We have unchecked it in our administrator account, applied, and OK'd but it comes right back as checked the very next time we open the Java control panel application. Supposedly, this used to work. You can see our discussions in http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r24034796- forum thread.

      Thank you in advance. :)

STEPS TO FOLLOW TO REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM :
      1. Install 32-bit Sun Java JRE into Vista or Windows 7 with its defaults (did not disable its UAC).
      2. Go to Windows' Control Panel and open up Java application CPL.
      3. Uncheck the default checked "do not check for updates".
      4. Save it and close it.
      5. Reopen this Java application CPL and look at the checkbox again for "do not check for updates".

      EXPECTED VERSUS ACTUAL BEHAVIOR :
      EXPECTED -
Unchecking the default checked "do not check for updates" should apply and work.
      ACTUAL -
Requested uncheck change did not save. It was back to default checked.

      REPRODUCIBILITY :
This bug can be reproduced always.

      CUSTOMER SUBMITTED WORKAROUND :
Have to change it through the "C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin" folder, right-click on the "javacpl.exe" file, click "Run as administrator", when the Java Control Panel opens, change the settings to what you want, Apply, OK.

      Release Regression From : 6u18
The above release value was the last known release where this
bug was not reproducible. Since then there has been a regression.
