License terms forbid redistribution of the JavaFX 2.0 runtime (opposite of Javafx, com FAQ 10)

    Details

    • Status: Resolved
    • Priority: P3
    • Resolution: Fixed
    • Affects Version/s: fx2.0
    • Fix Version/s: fx2.0.2
    • Component/s: deploy

      Description

      JavaFX.com clearly stated in FAQ #10 http://javafx.com/faq/#10
"JavaFX 2.0 is available under the same license and business model as Java SE. In particular, developers may distribute the JavaFX 2.0 Runtime libraries with their applications if they wish to do so."

However the license that JavaFX 2.0 shipped with forbids redistribution of the runtime. http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/terms/license/index.html

"G. LIMITATIONS ON REDISTRIBUTION. You may not redistribute or otherwise transfer: (a) JavaFX Runtime, (b) JavaFX Development Kit, or (c) any and all patches, bug fixes and updates made available by Oracle through Oracle Premier Support, including those made available under Oracle's Java SE Support program."

This is obviously detrimental to the JavaFX community and the adoption of JavaFX technology. There is clearly a reason that the issue made the top ten FAQs and the response at that time indicated redistribution would be allowed. Please change the license terms back to what we were led to believe, or at least justify the current license and how it will be remedied.
