      Description

Create "properties files" for UI and user seen messages to be localized.
How to internationalize UI / messages in the software so that they will be localization ready.

      1. Using Java

Here's a very nice tutorial on how to internationalize software in Java.
      http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/i18n/TOC.html

Our recommendation is to use properties files. See this.
      http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/i18n/resbundle/propfile.html

The tutorial covers how to handle different formats (numbers, currencies, dates, times and messages) very nicely. Compound messages are probably very typical, which is discussed here.
      http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/i18n/format/messageFormat.html

Here is a sample properties file from the compiler's team.

      2. Using JavaFX

There are no official documents on how to do this in JavaFX yet that I am aware of. Naoto from i18n team has implemented this feature in 1.0 and blogged about it.

Here's the original proposal for this i18n feature (called string literal translation).

I also have a series of blog entires on this feature.

      3. More on internationalization and i18n check list

We also have rich resources on internationalization here (a bit outdated).
      https://global.sfbay.sun.com/i18n/

Under Guidelines, we have a link to Internationalization Verification Checklist.

      4. Comprehensive i18n verification checklist.
