~~JDK-8223719~~ added .gitignore as a managed file. There is a FIXME comment that should be addressed.

As a meta-issue, that comment has a typo that Phil noted in the review of ~~JDK-8223719~~:

> FIXME: Eventually we should include the needed patterns from .hgingore

That should be ".hgignore"
